WSA takes the responsibility as the sole provider of drinking water, wastewater treatment, and stormwater management services for Douglas County very seriously.  Our employees strive to deliver the highest quality drinking water possible, which requires us to not only be good environmental stewards ourselves, but also to teach the community to be good stewards as well. 

WSA’s Executive Director won the River Steward Award from the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeepers at their 12^th Annual Appreciation Awards Dinner in October of 2006.  This was the first time an individual had ever won the award given for dedication and determination in protecting our environment.  The award had previously only been presented to an entity.

In fact, it was WSA’s interest in protecting the environment and watersheds that was one of the main reasons behind the City and the County deciding WSA was the best suited entity to be responsible for the stormwater management service.  Protecting the environment and watersheds from the polluting effects of poorly-managed stormwater runoff is imperative in the production of quality drinking water.  

WSA makes every effort to get the community involved in environmental stewardship so we all are doing our part to protect our water quality. Activities for involvement are varied and range from participation in the annual, state-wide Rivers Alive Cleanup Day -- to public workshops  conducted by WSA along with local Master Gardeners and Keep Douglasville Beautiful -- to tours of the water treatment plant and/or a wastewater treatment plant. 

All WSA wastewater treatment plants are required to meet scads of local and state rules and regulations in order to acquire and maintain the necessary permits from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division.  Throughout the years, WSA’s wastewater treatment plants have won multitudes of wastewater treatment awards as the results of its determination to not only meet the requirements, but also to exceed them whenever and wherever possible.
