Engineering

WSA’s Engineering Department includes a team of water professionals that are ready to help contractors, builders, property owners, and more with information on common (and occasionally not-so-common) topics such as permits for new construction or remodels, floodplain information, design and construction standards, and more. If you cannot find the resource you need in the links below, please call the Engineering Department at 770-920-3837 or email [email protected] for guidance.

Any contractor or developer about to perform any work on any WSA infrastructure must be listed on WSA’s approved contractor list.

Flood Plains Map

When WSA took over the responsibility for stormwater management in the City and County in 2004, one of the first major projects we undertook was to have the floodplain basins studied and mapped throughout Douglas County.

This mapping determines not only the existing 100-year floodplain conditions, but also predicts the future conditions. Prior to this, the floodplain maps used were those of the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA), and they were approximately 30 years old.

The last of the basin studies was completed in late 2012, with approximately 200 square miles mapped. As the basin maps were completed, the findings were shared with FEMA for use in its efforts to update their Flood Insurance Rate Maps. The information is now being used as “best available data” by realtors, builders, and contractors in purchasing and developing property.

Other floodplain map services you may find helpful include:

FEMA Map Service Center (search by address to view official FEMA flood insurance map for properties)

Georgia DFIRM (search by address to view aerial photos of official FEMA flood boundaries)

You may obtain floodplain information from WSA’s Engineering Department at (770) 920-3837.
