Certified Wastewater Plant Operator
Starting at $24.38, D.O.E.
This position performs skilled work in the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants and related facilities. Duties include ensuring, through composite sampling, process control monitoring, process adjustments, waste calculations, and recordkeeping, that all wastewater leaving the treatment process meets state and federal requirements, and generally works independently, but may work as a member of a crew. An individual in this position must be available for overtime work and a variety of assigned shift schedules, some in excess of five consecutive days, including weekends and holidays, for periods of 16 hours or more, and may be required to participate in the on-call program. This position reports to the Chief Wastewater Plant Operator or Wastewater Operations Superintendent.
Educational requirements include High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and six (6) months of related experience in wastewater treatment, as well as possession of a valid State of Georgia driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and possession of a State of Georgia Class III Wastewater Treatment System Operator Certificate.
Electrician
Starting at $24.38, D.O.E.
This position performs skilled work in the electrical maintenance and repair of water/wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and related equipment. May work independently or with other electricians, mechanics, laborers, and the pump station operators during repair assignments and assists in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs and maintaining detailed records. The electrician must have controls troubleshooting skills and be able to diagnose and repair electrical systems focusing on automation, PLCs, VFDs, and complex circuits, using tools like multimeters, clamp meters, thermal cameras, and schematic reading to fix issues from loose wires to programming errors, ensuring machines run safely and efficiently.
Core Responsibilities & Skills include: Troubleshooting medium/low voltage (120v to 4160v) power, motor starters, transformers, and breakers. Diagnosing PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMI (Human-Machine Interfaces), sensors, relays, and VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives). Working with 4-20mA signals, transmitters, and calibration. Reading and interpreting electrical drawings and manuals. Adhering to strict lockout/tagout (LOTO) and electrical safety procedures. Qualified candidates should possess an Associate’s Degree in Electronics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field and five (5) years of experience in motor controls, electronics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidates should also possess a valid State of Georgia driver’s license (Class C) and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), with a valid State of Georgia Class II (Unrestricted) Electrical License preferred. An individual in this position is on 24-hour call, 7 days a week and reports to the Maintenance Mechanic Superintendent.
Summer Intern
$13.47 hourly
The Douglasville-Douglas County Water and Sewer Authority will host students for an 8-week summer internship beginning June 1 and ending July 24, 2026. Students will gain hands-on experience working in a professional business setting at an award-winning water, sewer, and stormwater utility. Department descriptions:
Water Operations: Work alongside licensed water operators and laboratory analysts and assist in the operations and monitoring of water treatment equipment and processes to ensure the delivery of clean and safe drinking water to the community.
Wastewater Operations: Assist a team of licensed wastewater operators and water treatment specialists in the treatment of contaminated water by breaking down contaminants in wastewater, so our communities receive safe, clean water in their homes and businesses. This job combines mechanical knowledge, safety, maintenance, governmental regulations, water treatment, chemical handling, sample testing, first aid, and more.
Maintenance: Work as part of a team of water maintenance professionals in performing construction, maintenance and repair duties, including hydrant maintenance, replacement and repair, water main repair and replacement, flow testing, well maintenance, meter reading, and new service installations.
Engineering: Work alongside project engineers and engineering technicians in the planning, designing, and managing of infrastructure systems related to the safe and efficient distribution and treatment of water.
Communications: Assist the Authority’s communications team in fostering transparent and open dialogue with our community by providing accurate and timely information regarding our services and ensuring public trust and understanding of our vital role in delivering safe, reliable water while promoting responsible water usage and conservation practices.
Customer Service: Work as part of a team of customer service professionals in public-facing interactions, managing account inquiries, processing payments, and assisting with service orders. Key responsibilities include answering phones, resolving billing questions, and providing information on water usage or conservation.
Laborer
$16.54 hourly
Job duties include work of routine difficulty in manual labor involving physically demanding unskilled and limited semi-skilled tasks. Works as a water, wastewater, or construction crew member, maintaining water and/or sewer lines. This position requires the employee to be on-call on a rotating basis.
Field Services Representative
$16.54 hourly
This position involves reading water meters and terminating services. Duties involve accurately reading and recording the water consumption data of the Authority’s customers, following designated routes, and using a hand-held computer or the AMR Drive-By unit. Other work performed by this employee involves locking water meters for delinquency purposes and service terminations.
This position is also responsible for unlocking meters to restore service and obtaining meter readings as needed. The position may also be required to perform other meter services functions as required. This employee reports to the Meter Services Supervisor. Applicants must possess a High School diploma or GED, a valid State of Georgia driver’s license, and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Senior Equipment Operator
$21.03 hourly
This position performs skilled work in the operation of moderately complex medium to heavy construction equipment. The work involves the safe and skilled operating, servicing, and minor maintenance of equipment for transporting personnel and materials and may involve operating components of significant complexity or capacity. Work also involves the performance of manual tasks. Supervision may be exercised over semi-skilled workers. Candidate should possess a High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) with three (3) years of experience operating automotive and construction equipment preferred. Candidate should possess a valid State of Georgia driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), as well as a valid State of Georgia Class “A” CDL (Commercial Driver’s License). Possession of Manual Transmission Endorsement preferred or be able to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire. Possession of a Confined Spaces certificate. Possession of a Department of Transportation Flagger certificate. Possession of a Trench Excavation certificate. An individual in this position is required to be on-call on a rotating basis and reports to the Construction or Maintenance Foreman.
Maintenance Mechanic
$21.03 hourly
This position performs skilled work in major mechanical and minor electrical maintenance, adjustments, repair of water/wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and all related equipment. Work involves operating combination vehicles and single and tandem axle automotive equipment or relatively simple mechanical attachments. May work independently or with other mechanics, laborers, and/or the plant or pump station operators during repair assignments. Qualified candidates should possess a High School diploma or General Equivalency diploma (GED), three (3) years of experience in mechanical, electrical, and building maintenance and repair, as well as a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and valid State of Georgia Class “A” Commercial Drivers License (CDL). An employee in this position is required to be required to be on call on a rotating basis and reports to the Maintenance Mechanic Foreman.
